out of the bassinet, into the crib

so last night was the first night i've really let her cry for a long period of time...and being that she was in the bassinet next to my head, it was driving me nuts
thankfully the crib was all set up (we were having a BEAUTIFUL tree painted on the wall of her nursery...thank you grace whalen :) ...and then she was going to be in her room/crib)
anyway, i decided that if i was going to let her cry it out, she couldn't do it next to my head...especially since i swear she knew what i was doing and crying my name every now and then :(
well, she ate once more and then in her crib she went at around midnight...and cried and talked for a little bit (but not the screaming it had been before) and then slept until 5am...nice for mommy :)
hopefully this is the first of many good experiences in the crib...i'm not dumb enough to think she won't keep me up all night again, or that it will be all smooth sailing from here, but it does give me some hope after my past sleepless nights
and soon i will get pictures of her gorgeous nursery up on here...i procrastinate like mad

oh for some sleep

so yesterday i started reading the book 'on becoming babywise' which i have heard from everyone who has read it that it will change the way your baby sleeps (meaning more sleep for baby and parents)
well, evidently i have not read enough of it because last night she decided to not sleep until 5 am
we had a late night because we went over to amy's house and watched some movies...where of course she slept and nursed and slept some more...and made me look good
then we got home, and she decided to wake up and stay up, all night
thankfully my wonderful husband walked with her for about an hour
and she liked the rocker...however, not enough to sleep for me until 5 am (on my chest, with me on the couch)
hopefully the book will teach me some tips and help us all get more sleep :)

moving on up!!!

so we are now moving up in the world of diapers!!! we have moved from newborn to size one...what a big girl sophia is
and pretty soon we will be on to cloth diapers :)
i know, i'm kind of procrastinating changing over...more laundry
i keep using the excuse to wait for the two month mark...which is less than two weeks away
so i WILL change over, hopefully sophia gets the hint and doesn't poop and pee so much that i am doing laundry every day
oh and she is also back to pooping multiple times a day...no worry for mommy anymore :)

we have...

never thought i would freak out about or be excited about it but we have...POOP
after three days of no poop and sophia seeming to be upset whenever she passed gas, we have a very very small amount of poop :)

the chunkster

well, sophia is 6 weeks old tomorrow...crazy how time flies
seems like she was the little 6 pound baby i remember at birth
now she is 0.2 ounces off from being 10 whole pounds...10 whole pounds!
she has fat cheeks (face and butt), she has a HUGE stomach
and baby acne :( poor little sophia...but she is still cute
in the past week she has giggled (not purposefully but she giggled nonetheless), she is trying to hold her head up more and more (which can get dangerous if you're not paying attention)
she LOVES to go on walks; i think mainly because she is cuddled and close to somebody's body heat...which makes walks fun and sweaty
she has not pooped in 3 days and has a huge outie of a belly button
it has made me nervous that she hasn't pooped but after talking to her poppy (my dad, who is a P.A.), as long as she keeps farting then we are good
she can't make up her mind if she should sleep through the night or not...and daddy is convinced that it is what mommy eats/drinks...so coffee/caffeine is outlawed...which makes mommy more tired during the day, but all worth it because she's so cute!
all in all, sophia is healthy and growing like crazy...fatty mcfatster that she is
guess i can't complain too much :)

shopping post-baby

so i went shopping with my mom and sisters today...and of course the peanut
my sisters crack me up (so does my mom)
here's how: rebekah-cannot stop laughing at herself and things she thinks of, which in turn makes everyone else laugh too...gotta love it...and the girl can pull off any fashion imaginable
kristen-much like me can fall asleep anywhere and everywhere; she also is quite fashionable but could care less...also incredibly generous and unselfish
joanna-she's 13 going on 16 or 20...loves loves loves sophia to death...and in her credit, doesn't get to hold her a ton because the others steal sophia...poor jojo...
mom-well she's along for the ride sometimes but then again, sometimes she's the leader of it all...yard sale queen, gorgeous (almost) 50 year old...who is going to spoil sophia ROTTEN
so those are the lovely ladies sophia and i joined today to go to the mall
thankfully they all fight over sophia, which in turn allowed me to try on clothes
i finally found a pair of skinny jeans that fit me...post-baby :) oh skinny jeans, how i missed you
then we go into victoria secret and they asked if i wanted a bra...'they are on a great sale'
well, now that i'm nursing, the 'sexy/fashionable' bras don't quite work...so off to motherhood maternity (who despite their high prices on clothes have good deals on bras)
we then went to panera...thanks mom for treating
then to babies 'r' us for tirza's gift...which barely fit in the car
then to target...where bekah spent all her time in the $1 bin, kristen in the college/school stuff, and mom picking out stuff that sophia will 'one day use at nanna's house' (like a sno-cone machine...where was she when i wanted one of those???)
now we are pooped...me, figuratively and sophia, well actually
time to do laundry, get read for tirza's shower, and SLEEP :)

bottles and boobs

so i tried out a bottle (with my breast milk in it) today for the first time...since i'm going back to work in october and have gotten great advice from people (thanks courtney), decided it was time to start
needless to say, by the end of it, she only drank 2 oz and was unsure about the bottle nipple the whole time (guess mom's nipples are better)
so tomorrow i'm going to get a different nipple and we'll go from there
hoping also that taking this molasses smelling fenugreek and drinking mother's milk tea will increase my supply as she likes to suck me dry
after that fun time together, we went to warsaw health food and the library...where someone called her a 'he'...HOW DOES A LITTLE CUTE KID IN PINK AND PERIWINKLE BLUE AND BRIGHT PINK NAILS LOOK LIKE A BOY??? sorry, pet peeve of mine
then we went to grandma and grandpa's house
then home to walk with amy+baby turk, jessica, and jude...jude and sophia made it almost halfway before trying to melt down
but the mommies saved the day...by doing what they wanted of course :)
now it's time for her to eat and then bed...oh bed, with fresh, clean sheets...

funny quotes

so while my little one is cooing in her little chair, i took a little time to read my (free) parenting
magazine and came across some hilarious quotes by kids...thought i would share
the question:
'what did mommy do that made you mad?'
the answers:
'she made me turn off my favorite cartoon and made me go pee'
'she tried to dress me right away on monday. i thought it was still the weekend; she skipped saturday!'
'she made me clean up. i really didn't want to. i like it better when people give me options.'
'she makes me poop in the potty. it's dangerous.' (my absolute favorite)

and then i also came across another list that made me sigh in relief...top ten worries you'll laugh about later
1-that she really will tell her shrink you left her to cry it out in her crib
2-that they don't make pull-ups and sneakers with velcro for grown-ups
3-that not nursing her for the standard year (or ever) means he will wind up obese, stupid, and maladjusted
4-that the fact that she's such a nice, quiet girl means neighbors will one day tell reporters, 'i'm shocked! she was always such a nice, quiet girl.'
5-that a preference for dolls over trucks bodes well for the future of musical theater
6-that she'll be crushed when she discovers that she can't really be a firefighting astronaut veterinarian who treats alien animals in outer space
7-that if you throw out one of the 7,652 pieces of artwork dropping glitter onto the rug he will feel deeply hurt
8-that she's be dependent on you well into her 30s because you didn't read to her in the womb (so glad to hear this one :) )
9-that her sense of humor will never advance beyond fart jokes
10-that she might stop loving you as much as she does now

gotta love the free magazines

First Time

so this is the first blog i have ever done...never really thought i would have a blog
but now between being a mom (and all the things sophia does each day), having
some time here and there, and my friend lena encouraging me to start one, guess
i'll see how it goes :)
sophia is almost a month old now and i love it
can't say i love the late nite wake-up/nursing times but it's worth it when she smiles even if they aren't intentional smiles yet
she is getting the baby acne on her cheeks...guess it starts early
she still has all her hair-yeah!
and her cheeks are so chubby; i see why i used to bite people's cheeks when i was a baby- so appealing
i successfully cut and painted her nails the other day...now for the toenails :)
her lips are her aunt leia's...full and beautiful
her nose is a mixture of my dad's ball nose and the stangland's little point on the end of the nose
she has my fingers and toes...long and skinny
being a mom seems natural...some days
other days, and with certain things, i feel way unprepared; but i guess that is natural
